My friends keep asking me how I ended up traveling in Europe for more than a month. I already wrote about our vacation in London and adventures in Paris, but initially, we decided to head to Europe because of our best friends’ wedding that took place in Spain’s Costa Brava. It was not our first vacation in Spain, but the first one in that area. Our four days trip to this sandy beaches and rocky coves region had a completely different vibe compared to our last tour to Barcelona, Madrid, and Seville.
We stayed at Mas Falet 1682 hotel located just a few minutes away from the beach. Wedding guests occupied all of the suits in this castle-style hotel with a fantastic pool view. On the wedding day, the territory of the hotel was re-decorated with elegant floral arrangements that transformed this already luxurious area into a dreamy romantic spot.
On a rented car, we explored a nearby city with cobblestone roads and historic buildings. We saw a wide range of local goods and delicatessen that were sold in small shops located in old-looking buildings. Ben enjoyed ice cream and sandwiches and I found a coffee spot that served soy milk (which is a very rare occasion in Europe).
While the views in Costa Brava were amazing, I found it challenging to find fresh, healthy food. Maybe because it was the end of the season, but my impression was that local restaurants offered way too many meat-based dishes and bread. Not many options at all for vegetarians and vegans!
While the weather was inviting, we didn’t have a chance to go to the beach. Instead, we spent every moment with friends, recalling all the fun moments we had when Nina and Filip lived in New York. I was super happy for them getting married, but I wished that they continued their marriage living in the U.S. closer to us. I know, it’s too selfish to say, but we really missed N & F especially during summer. Well, I guess now when they live so far away we have an excuse to visit Europe more often to catch up with friends!
Do you have friends who live abroad? How do you preserve long-distance friendship and stay in touch?
