Normally in winter, we hide away in navys, greys and blacks, however, this year the streets, runways and stores have decreed it’s all about vibrant colours. But look on the plus side: If we have to wear two jumpers and a coat, we might as well make them as cheery as possible, right?

This decisive shift is partly down to the growth of the biggest colour of the season—red. It’s already making autumn seem far cheerier than ever before, but this isn’t the only colour breaking into our winter wardrobes, with yellow, orange and pink also set to be hot hues for A/W 17. When it comes to styling colourful knitwear, coats and boots, it’s all about unexpected pairings. Think a lemon jumper paired with brown trousers, and red mixed with pink and purple. Keep scrolling to see six winter colour combos that will instantly lift your mood.

Style Notes: The coolest new colour combo for this season is to wear red from head to toe—we love how Eva Chen wore a postbox-red trouser suit with a matching chunky roll-neck.
Style Notes: Lucy Williams takes her autumnal theme seriously here, wearing leaf-hued reds, oranges and tans.
Style Notes: Baby pink and brown shouldn’t go together, but Who What Wear’s Kat Collings shows this is the perfect alternative to all-black looks.
Style Notes: Jeanne Damas’s brown, red and burgundy combo is bright without being too attention-grabbing.
Style Notes: For a seriously punchy look, pair red with pinks and purples.
Style Notes: Lemon isn’t a traditional winter colour, but Roberta Benteler shows it looks amazing when paired with tans and caramels.
