3 Easy Hairstyles Using Hair Rings

Hair rings has been one of the latest trends blowing up in Hollywood, and if you’ve ever wondered how to style your hair using them, we come bearing good news this week.

3 Easy Hairstyles Using Hair Rings

In this week’s tutorial, we’ve teamed up with the beautiful Hollie Hobin to show you 3 cute and easy hairstyles using hair rings. If you’re not feeling the hair ring trend, you can simply create these hairstyles without the rings – they look good either way! Watch the tutorial below or keep scrolling down for a step-by-step walk through on how to achieve each look.

Look #1: Centre Braid with High Ponytail

3 Easy Hairstyles Using Hair Rings

    1. Brush your hair back and section a piece of hair at the crown of your head – this will be the braid.
    2. Tie the rest of your hair back loosely to keep it out of the way while you create your braid.
    3. To start the braid, take a small section at the centre of your hair, and separate it into three small sections. You will begin to create a dutch braid – simply cross the sections of hair under each other and once you cross over about three times, start to pick up pieces of hair and adding it into the section you are about to cross over.
    4. Continue to add hair as you braid to the back of your head until you have picked up all of the hair.
    5. Secure the end with a clear elastic and tighten it.
    6. To give the braid more volume, pull at sections of the braid all the way down.
    7. Create a high ponytail. A trick that Hollie does is to flip your hair upside down so that you can smoothen the underneath portion of your hair so there are no bumps. Secure with a hair elastic.
    8. To add volume to your ponytail, you can either wrap a 4 clip hair extension weft around the base of your ponytail, or simply backcomb sections of hair. (Learn how to do a ponytail with hair extensions here).
    9. The fun part – add the hair rings! Simply pull them apart, and weave them into your braid. Hollie applied 10 rings to her braid.

Look #2: Side Braid with Curls

3 Easy Hairstyles Using Hair Rings

  1. Curl your hair, and brush your curls out to create soft waves.
  2. Optional: For additional volume in your braid, you’re welcome to clip in a one clip weft of hair extensions on the side of your head which you will braid your hair.
  3. Create a side part, and divide the front section of hair into three separate sections and braid it using the same dutch braid technique as the last hairstyle – the dutch braid
  4. Cross sections of hair under each other, and pick up sections of hair as you go along. Each time you cross a section under, be sure to tighten the braid so it keeps its shape.
  5. Braid to the end of your hair and secure with a clear elastic.
  6. To add volume to your braid, pancake the hair by pulling it out slightly.
  7. Add hair rings to your braid all the way down to complete the look.

    Look #3: Space Bun Braids

3 Easy Hairstyles Using Hair Rings

    1. Section a large portion of hair at the crown of your head, and part down the middle. You will be creating two identical braids, so it’s best to ensure this middle part is straight and even.
    2. Pull the rest of your hair back and out of the way for when you create your braids and buns.
    3. Take one section of hair and begin to dutch braid it, like the other two hairstyles. Grab a piece at the front and create three smaller sections. Cross the hair under and pick up sections of hair as you go along.
    4. Secure with a clear elastic half-way down close towards the top of your head, so that the space buns stand straight up.
    5. Repeat the same thing with the other section of hair.
    6. Twist the hair around into a braid to create your space buns. Secure with an elastic.
    7. Add in your hair rings to each braid – Hollie used about 5 rings per braid.
